‘മഞ്ഞ’യെന്ന വാക്ക് എവിടെ നിന്നാണ് വന്നത്? യാദൃച്ഛികമായാണ് അതും സംഭവിച്ചത്. സര്‍ക്കുലേഷന്‍ മത്സരത്തിലെ കാലുവാരലിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഇരുകൂട്ടരും എഴുത്തുകാരെയും ചിത്രം വരയ്ക്കുന്നവരെയും മത്സരിച്ചു തട്ടിയെടുത്തിരുന്നുവല്ലോ. ‘ദ വേള്‍ഡി’ല്‍ അക്കാലത്തെ ശ്രദ്ധേയനായ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റ് റോബര്‍ട് ഔട്ട്‌കോള്‍ട്ടിന്റെ ‘ദ യെല്ലോ കിഡ് ‘ എന്നൊരു കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ പരമ്പര പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തി വന്നിരുന്നു. ഔട്ട്‌കോള്‍ട്ടിനെ എതിര്‍പത്രം തട്ടിയെടുത്തു. പുലിറ്റ്‌സര്‍ക്ക് ഇതുസഹിച്ചില്ല. മറ്റൊരു കാര്‍ട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റിനെക്കൊണ്ട് ഇതേ കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ ഇതേ രീതിയില്‍ സ്വന്തം പത്രത്തില്‍ അദ്ദേഹം തുടര്‍ന്നുവരപ്പിച്ചു. ഇത് വലിയ വിവാദമായി. നിലവാരമില്ലാത്ത മത്സരത്തെ എല്ലാവരും വിമര്‍ശിച്ചു. യെല്ലോ കിഡ്ഡിനെച്ചൊല്ലിയുള്ള മത്സരത്തെ പരിഹസിക്കാന്‍ അവര്‍ ഈ പത്രങ്ങളെ ‘യെല്ലോ ജേണലിസം’ എന്നും വിളിച്ചുപോന്നു.
